Reimagine Your World, Through the Eyes of King.

We’re pleased to announce that King is now exhibiting his work at 5 Points Gallery. He is one of just 10 contemporary artists whose work is featured at this premier fine arts gallery in downtown Durham, North Carolina. He will be on hand at the gallery to celebrate the opening of his exhibition this Saturday, 8/29, from 5-8pm. (Masks required.)

Through his art, King expresses his endless love of life. He sees what is true to him, and speaks his feeling through his paintings – sharing images of a beautiful world painstakingly created out of individual numbers. Viewers of his art are invited into this world, welcomed by the vibrant colors and bold shapes. Close observation is rewarded with glimpses of the intricate patterns that are the basic building blocks of his painting and sculpture. By engaging with King’s work, we’re encouraged to look at our surroundings with new eyes, and bring his unique and refreshing perspective into our own lives.

As a person with autism, King is extremely sensitive to and in tune with the world around him. He speaks the language of shapes and colors and numbers, and expresses that in the titles of his work: “The Friends Are Doing Great Because They Are Together With The Goat, 7177;” “The Hat Is Feeling Silver Because It Is In A Good House, 9997.” The numbers dance on his canvas, and they’re his friends. When he paints, he smiles.

As a professional artist, King has been spending much of the pandemic in his home studio, the place where he feels most free. He is taking on commissions of all sizes, and is currently exploring very largest canvas painting. While many of his regular activities and normal routines have been upended, he is loving the challenges he’s facing and staying connected through video chats and social media. You can follow King, and see his latest work, on Facebook and Instagram.

He is especially pleased to be able to support himself through his art. His work can be viewed in the gallery Fridays and Saturdays from 5-8pm, or by appointment. Visit 5 Points Gallery and www.kinggodwin.com to find out how to see and purchase his work.

WELCOME “King” TO CHRISTOPHER PARK GALLERY

Yuko Taylor

The seeds of the gallery began while observing people as they contemplated entering a traditional gallery. Many people just did not look comfortable in what appeared to be unfamiliar territory. When the decision was made to open a gallery, we wanted to create an atmosphere where our visitors felt warm and welcomed. We chose to display art in an informal way, more like they way you live in your home. To that end, we used color on the walls, real furniture and lots of ambient lighting. After all, few people live in a home with stark walls, display podiums and spotlights.
